Walking Worthy of His Calling (I)

February 13, 2010

(I am doing a series on the entire Epistle to the Ephesians.  However, I am only going to post the outlines from the second half of the book.  This is the first installment.)

“The ‘Edification’ of the Body”

Ephesians 4:1-16

The Big Idea– The unity of Christ’s Body is protected as gifted leaders help its members grow toward spiritual maturity.

The Big Picture of Ephesians-

Chs. 1-3: “The calling with which you have been called”

Chs. 4-6: “Walking worthy of the calling”

(4:1-6) Every believer is responsible to live in a loving manner that will protect the unity of the church.

(4:7-10) The Cross and Resurrection made possible Christ giving the diverse spiritual “gifts” that build up His church.

(4:11-16) Christ has given gifted people who train the Body toward maturity and living the truth in love.

The Bottom Line– Did you realize how important spiritual unity is to the Lord?

–         Are you willing to do what the Lord says is necessary to protect spiritual unity?

–         Did you realize that maturity in “the unity of the faith” is God’s goal for the church?

–         Are you willing to live the truth in love, so that the Body might mature?
