“The Armor of God”

Ephesians 6:13-20

Introduction

The Big Idea– The armor of God has you covered in spiritual warfare, if you’ll choose to put it on.

The Backdrop

Chs. 1-3- “The calling with which you have been called”

Chs. 4-6- “Walk worthy of the calling”

(6:13) The armor of God is available to help you stand firm in “the evil day”—every day.

(6:14-17a) There are several pieces for strictly defensive purposes in the armor of God.

The belt of truth (14a)

The breastplate of righteousness (14b)

The footgear of the gospel of peace (15)

The shield of faith (16)

The helmet of salvation (17a)

(6:17b) There is one piece of the armor of God that can be either defensive or offensive: the sword of the Spirit.

(6:18-20) However, there are other offensive aspects of the armor of God than most Christians realize.

– Prayer (18-19a, 20b)

Evangelism (19b-20a, c)

The Bottom Line– Did you ever realize that being an “ambassador for Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:20) throws you right in the middle of the spiritual warfare?
