“The Christian as Citizen”

1 Peter 2:11-17

Introduction

The Big Idea– Your faithfulness to the Lord is partly lived out by how you behave as an earthly citizen.

The Big Picture– The front end of a time of major persecution for Christians (see 1:6; 3:13-17; 4:12-19)

(2:11-12) As a Christian “passing through” this world, your godly behavior influences unbelievers to follow you to heaven.

(2:13-16) As a Christian bondservant, you are to be a law-abiding citizen and thus silence accusations from unbelievers.

The Bottom Line (2:17)- Key Questions: As a Christian citizen, are you “doing your duty” to:

1)      “Honor” every person around you?

2)      Love other Christians in a special way?

3)      Reverence God above all else in life?

4)      Honor the governing authorities unless… (see Acts 5:29)?
