“How to Get God to Grant Your Heart’s Desire”

Psalm 37:4-5

The Big Idea– To receive the desire of your heart from God, you must foundationally delight in Him by faith.

The Big Picture– Psalm 37: A song about the wise way for believers to handle fretting

(37:4a) To receive your heart’s desire from the Lord, you must first be delighting in Him.

(37:4b) If you’re delighting in the Lord, your desires will be transformed into His desires for you.

(37:5a) You cannot delight in the Lord if you haven’t committed your life to Him in faith.

(37:5b) If you’re fully committed to the Lord, you can trust He’ll bring about your transformed heart’s desire.

The Bottom Line– Matthew 7:11 says, “If you, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”  But, it is not coincidental that Christ had earlier taught His disciples to pray “Give us this day our daily bread,” as well as “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil” (Matt. 6:11, 13).  You see, we often don’t ask for things that are good for us!
