Anger: What It Is and Where It Comes From

Genesis 4:1-8

Introduction

The Big Idea– Anger is a reaction having more to do with what’s inside you than what you’re reacting to.

A basic definition of “anger”: “A strong feeling of displeasure and usually of antagonism” (Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, 10th Ed.)

(Genesis 4:3-7) Soon after mankind’s first sin, the initial reaction of anger could have been mastered, but wasn’t.

(Galatians 5:19-21) All self-centered anger is an internal reaction of the flesh and its naturally sinful desires.

The Bottom Line (Galatians 5:16-18, 22-23)- The Christian has the Holy Spirit living within, providing the resource by which anger can be mastered.
